Money is Not All You Can Offer
I was walking home on Tuesday evening after a long day, when this fair good looking Lady, I mean she really looked good, her braids were well done, her clothes weren't bad at all. I assume she should be in her mid-30's, she called my attention, I turned wondering what she would say, it was a face I had never seen.
She said 'sister, can I talk to you? ', 'sure, you can' I responded. She said 'please can you help me with transport?' the truth is that I didn't have so much money on me, I told her but I added I had a little I could help her with, which I did.
She was really grateful but I could see that this lady was going through a lot, it was telling on her forget the good look(as we would put it 'the packaging')
I couldnt get myself to leave her. I kept wondering how she was going to get home. I asked her where she lived and she told me. It was quite a distance.
I didn't want to ask further questions but before i could think of what to say next she said 'I don't want to bother you with my problem, my dear you have tried, am grateful'.
Still I couldn't leave her, so I said 'Ma, how will you get home? ' with sadness written all over her face she replied 'I will keep asking, someone like you will answer me, I didn't even know you will listen to me, but you did', and she kept thanking me.
I knew this lady needed more than money, we all have more than money to offer, 'do you mind if I pray with you? ' I asked. I got a quick positive answer, I didn't expect, we both moved off the road, where I held her hand and prayed with her, my eyes were closed while I prayed, when we both said the final 'Amen'
I opened my eyes to see this Lady in tears. I was so touched watching tears roll down this lady's cheeks, then I was led to add some money, but it wasn't still enough, but I was happy she confessed God wouldn't allow her sleep there.
What surprised me most was how bothered she was about me, it was so overwhelming. Still wiping her tears, my right hand was on her shoulder, I just kept encouraging her.
I came closer and gave her a quick deep hug I haven't given anyone in a while, I won't forget that hug in a while, this was a total stranger.
She kept blessing me till I left her. I did stop looking back till I couldn't see her again.
This is not to announce 'my deeds', people have done more. But the truth is we have every reason to be grateful to God everyday. People are going through a lot, imagine what it feels like not having transport to go back home, its sad and depressing.
Don't forget to always encourage people,
Money is not enough to leave them with. If possible pray with them. Tell them God loves and cares for them, and if you are comfy enough say 'I love you' and mean it. Our encouragement does a lot more than money can and will ever do.
Listen to people that Lady just needed someone to listen to her. She didn't stop thanking me for just 'listening' to her. You may not have all the solutions to ones problems but listening alone shows you care.
Thank you
