Mum's Sex Talk
There is so much in the world today that is highly sexually appealing, from music videos to fashion and ultimately the 'baba' the internet. So sexual purity/abstaince seems old fashioned and archaic.
My mother spent alot of time with my sisters and I when we were growing up. She taught us alot of lessons we cherish so much.
Today I would share on
LESSONS MY MOTHER TAUGHT US ON SEXUAL PURITY.
She told us these things when we were less than 10 years old and they are very much alive within us.
1)Your body is the temple of God
I knew this before I knew it was a bible scripture and before I knew were it was in the bible as well. She taught us God's temple ought be holy.
2) Your body belongs to God and your husband
Although young, we knew we had to wear white dressesπ and go to the altar, be married, before we get a 'husband', and we were to share our bodies with him alone. Since we all got no husband, we've got to give in to no one.
3) Do not allow any 'uncle' call you his wife
If you grew up in Nigeria, you will know 'uncle' is any grown up male around who may not be a sibling of your parent, there are always so many uncles around. Sometimes we even referred to our teachers as uncle.
I remember a day I went to have my hair done with Terna (my elder sister), so we met this man who also lived within. He said I was his second wife and Terna was first. I remember arguing my life out.
My little self kept arguing, 'I am not your wife, my Mummy said you should not call me your wife', I wasn't even ready to go home till I finished that argument with him that day.
That's how much my Mother had alot that sank.
I tried to connect it myself, the last point above says our body belongs to God and our husbands. I feel my mother knew people calling us their wives may most likely give us a sence of belonging to them, and since they call us their 'wives', It may push us to do what husbands and wives do.
Maybe my mother didn't see it that way, but that's how my brain interpreted it.
4) Do not allow any one spank you on your 'Bum Bum'
One 'Uncle' had spanked my sister on her boot, and lo and behold my mother was there. He sure got a tongue lash that day. I can remember her saying
'Can't you spank her somewhere else?'
He apologised immediately, that proved how much my mother was willing to defend what she had said.
5) You have eggs in you
This made me laugh hard when I was taught about the reproductive system, mother wasn't totally wrong anyway. But that sounded so scary. Eggs are definately to be handled with care.
The last and the one I love most
6) If he loves you, he will wait for you.
Waiting means alot, love is patient and not pushy at all.
If he loves you, he will wait to have you go out with him and he will also wait to appropriately have your body.
My generation want the now, we want a taste of sex NOW. I realise how sacred such an act is and truly should be waited to be practiced in freedom.
The times we live in, it is pretty hard to live pure especially with the media that promotes sex so well.
I remain eternally grateful to my Mother for teaching theses thing when I was so tender.
I overheard her telling my younger once about condoms and all, I felt so uncomfortable on their behalf but it's so necessary.
They are not easy to talk about but if parents don't teach us about it, then the world will, and you trust the worlds way of teaching.
Parents and aspiring parents, remember these lessons they are vital.
Teach them for you do not know how much these lessons have saved my life.
Saving one could mean saving many others.
Disclaimer- 'uncle' as used here does not refer to a male sibling of a parent. In this part of the world 'uncle's refers to any male adult around. Sometimes uncle even refers to teachers.
