WHO/WHAT IS TRYING TO SILENCE YOUR VOICE?
I had changed school for senior secondary. The propriestress of my new school had serious issues with my voice.
She said my voice was TOO LOUD for a LADY, so I needed to keep my tone down. I really liked to speak and I still do.
Anytime she called me to her office, I knew I would get a 'voice sermon' after.
I learnt I had this semi-baritone voice when I was younger but I had not had anyone shut me up like that.
I remember these two experiences vividly that I found most humiliating.
The first was a choir rehearsal. She came to supervise and asked the Music Director how many voice parts we had. We had three, soprano, alto and tenor.
She said 'We have a female bass', your guess was right. She called me out of the mist of other girls and there I was standing alone as the 'female bass' trust secondary school students to laugh hard🤣🤣
The second was a time I was selected to represent the school at a program in an embassy. I was to go with a primary school student for the primary category.
She had me spend extra time in school so I could learn how to introduce myself with an 'accent' I had to fake, she would repeatedly ask why I could not speak like her (referring to the primary school student), quite humiliating..
I got to know God more that period and I knew God couldn't use me no matter what, Moses even stammered. Plus the fact that she choose me to represent her school made me realise I had potentials and she knew it. THOSE WHO TALK YOU DOWN KNOW YOUR POTENTIAL FRIEND.
What about others who may not have that knowledge that I had; and have just lived life like they have no gifting.
I am forever grateful that my stay in that school didn't silence my voice.
God has used this LOUD voice to encourage girls, this voice has recorded poems too and will do more God willing..
Is it a disability you have?
Or negative words people have said about you or your gifts?
Whatever it maybe be, it's time to rise up and use your potentials. Remember if you rise others will rise too.
I pray July will be the month to push you to your dreams!
Happy new month 💜
Throwback to the day is recorded my poem Broken in CBN AFRICA STUDIO.
